Unattended Death in Oakdale, NY

Crime scene on Long Island

In the summer of 2014, National Crime Scene Cleanup Long Island was called to help a family with a cleanup. The couple told a story to our receptionist about how they were celebrating their sixth wedding anniversary in Center Moriches when they received a call the very next morning about a relative that had been found in their condo unresponsive. The distant cousin of the man in Center Moriches didn’t know what to do after the authorities described the scenario as an “unattended death” to him.

The couple was the closest family the deceased had been in touch with over the years, so there wasn’t anyone else left in the family to assist cleaning the condo after the funeral. The couple called National Crime Scene Cleanup and help was immediately sent over to the Oakdale location off of Sunrise Highway near exit 48.

As in all calls similar to this, the NCSC expert technicians arrived at the location within hours to meet the Center Moriches couple and began the cleaning process. In this case, the couple had a chance to enjoy lunch at the California Diner nearby for a few hours while the crime scene cleanup crew did their work. The National Crime Scene Cleanup office in Patchogue, Long Island has fielded the most unattended death and suicide cleanup calls of our hyperlocal areas throughout the country.

Licensed Long Island Biohazard Cleaning Services For Over 20 Years

NCSC's Certifications

Biohazard situations are dangerous and unlawful to remove and transport without proper training and certification. There are federal, state, and local environmental agencies that have specific regulations for these types of situations. For example, federal law requires crews to complete specific training courses to maximize worker safety and minimize direct exposure to harmful pathogens. These regulations are outlined as per OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.1030 Bloodborne Pathogen Standard.

In combination with over 20 years experience in the industry, NCSC's crews annually or biannually (depending on the type) review or renew the following certifications:

  • 40-hour OSHA/HAZWOPER In House
  • Certified Bloodborne Pathogens Certification
  • OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response Supervisor*
  • EPA Asbestos Certificate
  • Lead Safe EPA Cert. Firm (LBP-F215193-1)

Furthermore, NCSC assesses the safest and latest nonallergenic EPA-registered disinfectants for each situation.

* - OSHA requires at least one supervisor present during each biohazard remediation.

How NCSC Complies With Local Regulations

In addition with federal law and regulatory compliance, New York State requires additional permits for the lawful transportation of hazardous and biohazardous waste materials. NCSC is fully compliant with 6 NYCRR Part 364. In plain language, this law essentially requires all vehicles must handle, store, and display waste transportation compliance responsibly and lawfully. The requirements of this law are further explained under New York State Compliance.

Additionally, in accordance with New York State law, NCSC crews also hold a certificate to remediate asbestos lawfully under NYS Cert. #13414734. Crews are DEC certified #1A-1122.
